Toshiba Launches Its First DVR for 960H Resolution Cameras

Recorder can host resolutions up to 960 TV lines per channel

IKS-WP816RIRVINE, CA, January 9, 2015 -- Toshiba Surveillance & IP Video Products, a business unit of Toshiba America Information Systems, Inc., is helping businesses realize the improved picture quality of 960H high resolution with its new EAV16-480 embedded digital video recorder (DVR).

Configured with 16 channels, the EAV16-480 records at frame rates up to 480fps and supports the latest ultra-high resolution 960H analog cameras. Although analog, 960H cameras produce an image similar in quality to a one-megapixel IP camera. Their 960 horizontal by 480 vertical pixels resolution is 34 percent larger than D1 (720 x 480) and more than 500 percent larger than CIF (360 x 240), allowing the cameras to capture more scene details and making subjects easier to identify by police and security staff.

The Toshiba EAV16-480 is designed to expand beyond a typical analog DVR role. It is ideal for the cost-effective upgrading of older DVRs since 960H cameras use the same BNC cabling as lower quality systems yet host resolutions of up to 960 TV lines per channel. This compares favorably with a move to IP cameras that would require complete rewiring to Ethernet cabling.

Several days of continuous video with audio can be recorded on the EAV16-480's internal 8TB hard drive, as well as exported remotely as JPEG or AVI files. It supports the versatility of recording and playback in D1, CIF, and 960H resolutions, plus uses advanced H.264 video compression to reduce bandwidth and storage requirements.

Video from the EAV16-480 can be accessed remotely over the Internet via Toshiba’s SCS Video Management System. The SCS software allows multiple EAV recorders from different physical locations to be connected to one central workstation to view live and recorded video. The SCS software is also compatible with other Toshiba analog, hybrid and network recorders. In addition, real-time video can be viewed on iPhone, iPad or Android devices using Toshiba's free dedicated apps.

Like all Toshiba IP equipment, the EAV16-480 provides user-friendly operation with its one-touch instant backup, and an intuitive interface powered by Toshiba Surveillix SCS software, while configuration wizards make for simple plug-and-play installation.
