| IRVINE, CA, December 28, 2005 -- Bringing its advanced networking capabilities to the video surveillance market, Toshiba introduces its IK-WR01A, an IP-addressable, vandal-resistant 1/3-inch CCD dome camera boasting an advanced feature set that includes 802.3af Power Over Ethernet (PoE), IP66 rating for dust and water resistance, analog BNC video output for hybrid integration with analog monitors and recorders, M-JPEG live-streaming video up to 30 frames-per-second (FPS), VGA resolution (640x480), and true day-night functionality for round-the-clock monitoring in lighting down to .4 lux.
Using a 10/100BaseT network connection, the IK-WR01A allows security-sensitive areas such as retail outlets, schools, outdoor public spaces, and apartment buildings to be remotely monitored by a PC or other Internet-ready device via a standard browser. This video can be simultaneously viewed by an unlimited number of authorized personnel from anywhere in the world at any time. In addition, the camera will transmit email through a SMTP or POP3 server when motion is triggered by its built-in video motion detection function.
Engineered to withstand abusive treatment and harsh outdoor environments, the IK-WR01A features a thick steel body with tamperproof screws and a break-resistance dome cover, qualifying it for use in correctional facilities, school campuses and other institutions prone to vandalism.
The first vandal-resistant network dome cameras available with PoE, the IK-WR01A requires only a single CAT 5 or above cable to deliver both communications and power, resulting in a major reduction in installation costs as it eliminates the need to install electrical wiring or power outlets. Besides cost efficiencies, PoE can assure continuous surveillance in a power outage by carrying battery backed up uninterrupted power via the LAN to the camera. Besides PoE, AC24V and DC12V power options are available.
Like the Toshiba IK-VR01A dome camera introduced in March, the IK-WR01A gives installers several benefits. It can be altered on-the-fly from clear to tinted cover, or from surface to flush mounting, making it literally four cameras in one. Its mounting holes line up to most junction boxes to quicken installation.
Further enhancing the versatility of the IK-WR01A is its compatibility with Toshiba's popular www.camerawebpage.com hosting service and NetCam DVR remote recording service.
The Toshiba IK-WR01A camera is expected to ship in September 2005. MSRP has not been determined.
